Why a Porch Still Matters
A front porch is where you wave at neighbors and wait out a summer storm. A back porch is a deck with a roof and a door to the kitchen. Both add a room you use most of the year.
Front Porches

A front porch is the face of the house. It has to look right from the street. We match the roof line, the posts and the trim to your home. Steps and a rail go where people actually walk up.
Deep porches are better for sitting. A narrow porch looks nice but fits few chairs. We talk through how you plan to use it before we set the size.
Back Porches
A back porch is often a covered deck. It gives you shade at noon and a dry spot in the rain. Many owners add a ceiling fan and lights. If you want screens later, we can frame for that now. See covers, pergolas and screened porches.
Rebuilding an Old Porch
Older houses in town often have porch floors that have soaked up decades of rain. Boards go soft, posts rot at the base and steps sag. We check the frame first, just as we do on a deck, then quote a repair or a rebuild.
Questions People Ask
Can you add a roof to my existing porch?
Often, yes. The posts and frame need to carry the roof, and the roof has to tie into the house the right way. We check both before we quote.
Wood or composite for a porch floor?
Wood looks classic and costs less. Composite needs less care. On a covered porch, wood lasts longer because it stays drier.
Does a porch need a permit?
It may, especially with a roof. The city page does not list porches by name, so ask with its Permit Requirement Determination Form.
